Tectonic implications of canyon directions over the Northeast Atlantic Continental Margin
The basis of this study is a new bathymetric map of the northeast Atlantic compiled from previously published maps made from conventional echosounder data, plus all Sea Beam data acquired on board the R/V JEAN CHARCOT since 1977. As most of the Sea Beam data have been obtained on the continental margin from Porcupine Seabight to the south of the Iberian Peninsula, a precise picture of the conti...
متن کاملModeling Sedimentary Deposits on the Continental Margin
A first objective is to investigate the fabric (pattern) of seabed stratification on continental margins at small time and space scales (1 cm-50 cm depth into the seabed; 1 hr-3 yrs sedimentary record). To this end, we are testing the hypothesis that on muddy shelves such as the northern California shelf, Holocene event stratigraphy consists of the deposits of high-concentration storm regimes a...
متن کاملHydrodynamics of the Us mid - Atlantic Continental Slope , Offshore New Jersey A
Fluid pressures in Miocene-Pleistocene sediments of the US mid-Atlantic continental slope approach the lithostatic stress and are an important control on the stability of the slope. Fluid pressures in excess of hydrostatic were generated by regional depositional patterns and sedimentation rates. Fluid migration within porous and permeable Miocene silty sand layers redistributed pressure and gen...
متن کاملGeochemistry and Thermobarometry of Bazman volcanic rocks, An example of active continental margin volcano
Bazman volcano is located in the Makran-Chaghi magmatic arc in southeastern Iran. Many studies have been done on this volcano, especially of petrology such as: Biabangard and Mollazadehbarvati, 2017; Berberian and Berberian, 1982; Mohammadi, 2005; Sahandi et al., 2010; Schmidt and Dabiri, 2019; Firoozkoohi, et al., 2017; Ghodsi et al., 2006; Glamghash et al., 2015; Karimpour et al., 2012; St...
متن کاملElephant teeth from the atlantic continental shelf.
Teeth of mastodons and mammoths have been recovered by fishermen from at least 40 sites on the continental shelf as deep as 120 meters. Also present are submerged shorelines, peat deposits, lagoonal shells, anz relict sands. Evidently elephants and other large mammals ranged this region during the glacial stage of low sea level of the last 25,000 years.
